Novice Program - Classroom

  • The classroom portion is delivered virtually over Zoom. At this point in time we do not provide in person offerings.

  • The classroom portion is seven lessons. They are typically delivered on Tuesday and Thursday evening.

  • You are required to attend and complete all seven lessons - you should choose a course start time where you will be able to attend all seven lessons.

    We do recognize that life happens, and in some circumstances we will allow students to join a make-up class.

    We keep a record of your attendance.

  • Yes.

    There is a mid-term in class 4 and a final in class 7. You are required to pass both tests.

  • Yes.

    During the lesson, students are required to show a Government Issued Photo ID. The instructor then notes the attendance for each lesson. This is done twice during each lesson.

    You must stay for the full lesson.

  • No.

    We do not book any in car lessons until a student has attended all seven courses and passed both tests.

  • We require all novice students to pay $200 before they are confirmed to the classroom portion.

    Students will then pay the remaining balance before any in car lessons are booked.

  • We maintain an updated list on our website. Please refer to the Novice Driver section.

  • We require this information so that we have multiple channels to contact an individual. We also need this information in case we need to reach out.

  • It is the student’s responsibility to track when the lessons are to occur.

  • Please refer to Zoom’s website to download the required app or join via web browser. Please contact Zoom for support about their platform.

    We recommend checking that you have access to Zoom at least a day in advance. Sometimes the software requires updates and waiting until the last minute can cause delays.

    Please also note that some ChromeBooks are not compatible with Zoom. Please ensure that you have a laptop or other compatible device.

In Car Lessons & Road Test

    In general, you will need:

    • Proof of insurance

    • Copy of a valid vehicle registration

    • Valid Drivers Permit

    • Novice Driver Sign

    • Vehicle in good working condition

    • Road Test Payment Receipt - please bring a printed version

    If using driving school vehicles, a student will need to bring a non-expired permit, printed road test receipt, and any other documents that have been stated as required (e.g. Driver’s License from another province or country).

    If this is your second attempt at the road test, you will have received a yellow receipt if you passed the parking portion. Please bring that slip or you will be required to repeat the parking portion. The retest needs to be completed within 3 months otherwise parking will have to be redone.

  • You MUST have your NL driving permit with you at ALL times during your in-vehicle lessons. Failure to have your permit card with you will forfeit your lesson and your remaining schedule.

    If you require corrective lenses, you MUST have your glasses or lenses with you.

  • Yes.

    You must wear enclosed shoes during lessons and road tests. This is for safety purposes.

  • All lessons begin and end at the Motor Registration parking lot unless otherwise specified on your schedule.

  • Lessons are typically two hours in length. In certain circumstances lessons may be one hour in length.

  • No.

    We only allow one lesson per day. On road test day, we will allow a lesson to happen the same day as the road test.

  • Yes.

    We allow individuals to book more time as needed. Our pricing schedule per hour apply.

  • Yes.

    However, students need to complete a two hour assessment. Providing the student is ready for the road test they can book a vehicle for the road test.

    Vehicle must be booked with a 1 hour warm up lesson prior to the road test.

  • It is the student’s responsibility to track their schedule and to attend lessons.
