Novice Program - Classroom

How is your Novice Driver classroom portion delivered?

The classroom portion is delivered virtually over Zoom. At this time, we do not provide in-person offerings.

How many lessons is the Novice Driver Classroom portion?

The classroom portion is seven lessons. They are typically delivered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Am I required to attend all seven lessons?

Yes. You are required to attend and complete all seven lessons.

We do recognize that life happens, and in some circumstances we may allow students to join a make-up class.

We keep a record of your attendance.

Are there tests in the classroom portion?

Yes. There is a mid-term in class 4 and a final in class 7. You are required to pass both tests.

Do you take attendance?

Yes. Students are required to show a government-issued photo ID. Attendance is completed twice during each lesson.

You must stay for the full lesson.

Can I enter a vehicle before completing the classroom portion?

No. We do not book any in-car lessons until a student has attended all seven classes and passed both tests.

Do I need to pay before attending the classroom portion?

We require all novice students to pay $200 before they are confirmed for the classroom portion.

Students then pay the remaining balance before any in-car lessons are booked.

Where can I find the schedule for classroom lessons?

We maintain an updated list on our website. Please refer to the Novice Driver section.

Why do you require parent's or guardian's contact information?

We require this information so that we have multiple channels to contact an individual if needed.

Do you provide notifications or reminders?

It is the student’s responsibility to track when the lessons are to occur.

I haven't used Zoom before, what do I need to do?

Please refer to Zoom’s website to download the required app or join by web browser.

We recommend checking that you have access to Zoom at least a day in advance.

Please note that some Chromebooks are not compatible with Zoom. Please ensure you have a laptop or other compatible device.

In-Car Lessons & Road Test

How do I pay for my road test?

You pay for the road test on the Department of Motor Registration website.

How do I schedule an appointment with the Motor Registration Department?

You can schedule through the Motor Registration Department website.

What do I need to bring to my road test?
  • Proof of insurance
  • Copy of valid vehicle registration
  • Valid driver’s permit
  • Novice Driver Sign
  • Vehicle in good working condition
  • Printed road test payment receipt

If using a driving school vehicle, bring a non-expired permit, printed road test receipt, and any other required documents.

If this is your second road test attempt and you passed parking, bring your yellow receipt.

What do I need to bring to each lesson?

You must have your NL driving permit with you at all times during in-vehicle lessons.

If you require corrective lenses, you must have your glasses or lenses with you.

Do I need to wear enclosed shoes?

Yes. You must wear enclosed shoes during lessons and road tests for safety purposes.

Where do we meet?

All lessons begin and end at the Motor Registration parking lot unless otherwise specified on your schedule.

How long is each lesson?

Lessons are typically two hours. In certain circumstances, lessons may be one hour.

Can I schedule multiple appointments on the same day?

No. We only allow one lesson per day. On road test day, a lesson may happen the same day as the road test.

Can I book additional time if I want?

Yes. Individuals can book more time as needed. Our pricing schedule per hour applies.

Can I rent a car for a road test?

Yes. Students need to complete a two-hour assessment first.

If the student is ready, they can book a vehicle for the road test. The vehicle must be booked with a one-hour warm-up lesson before the road test.

Will I receive reminders about my lessons?

It is the student’s responsibility to track their schedule and attend lessons.
